Teresa F. Esquivel

Teresa F. Esquivel passed away in New York from leukemia on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Her presence left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

Terry was born in Manila, Philippines, to Teresita Fanuncial and Rodolfo Esquivel. The second of seven children, she grew up in Quezon City and attended Maryknoll Grade School. At 14, she and her family immigrated to the United States in avoidance of the oncoming Philippine martial law, settling first in Soquel, California, and later in New York City. She attended Washington Irving High School and SUNY Brockport, where she majored in Spanish and minored in Dance—reflecting her love for movement, culture, art and expression.

After college, Terry worked as the tax assessor of New York's Greenwich Village. She then earned an M.S. in real estate investment analysis from the University of Wisconsin. It was there that she met her soulmate Brian Furlong who she married in October 1986. They both enjoyed successful careers in real estate finance. Yet their greatest joy and accomplishment was raising sons Brian and Tim.

Terry and Brian shared a love of adventure. Her favorite travels were immersed in nature, including US National Parks, the Galápagos, African safari, Norway, Greece, Montenegro, the Philippine islands and the Amazon plus bike trips in Maine, Louisiana, France, Italy and Argentina.

Terry cherished time with family and friends. She was the glue to her extended family. She organized family reunions over 26 years in Stephentown, New York—gatherings that brought dozens of relatives together for Labor Day weekends of close family connection and celebration. After retirement, they moved to Austin to enjoy the vibrant live‑music culture, food scene and embrace of newfound friends. Their home was always open—warm, welcoming, with plenty of good food and drink, filled with love and laughter.

The depth of Terry's love and generosity was unmistakable. In her final days, dozens traveled to be by her side, from throughout the US and internationally. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, joie de vivre and unwavering devotion as a wife, mother, sister, godmother, cousin, aunt, niece and friend will be remembered always. Her legacy is compassion, joy, and boundless love.

Instead of flowers, please honor Terry by sending donations in her memory to Community First Village in Austin, TX, where Terry volunteered helping the homeless.
